Description
Jacquesson unveils its new cuvée
The estate
Located in Dizy within the Vallée de la Marne, the Champagne Jacquesson House, founded in 1798, was taken over by the Chiquet family in 1974.
Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet, two passionate brothers, craft exceptional cuvées through their parcel-based approach and unique philosophy of vinification and aging, expressing the singular character and richness of these outstanding 28 hectares of chalk terroirs.
With its numbered cuvées renowned for their finesse, airy purity, and exceptional aging potential, Jacquesson is among the elite of the great names in Champagne.
The wine
Since 1999, Maison Jacquesson has sought to champion its independence through a cuvée that each year celebrates the ideal blend of what makes Champagne unique: its parcels, its grape varieties, its terroir, and its people. The launch of Cuvée 728 marked the beginning of the Manifesto of the 700 Cuvées, with each bottle bearing the three digits of its birth.
Jacquesson’s Cuvée 744 comes from the 2016 harvest, with 55% sourced from the terroirs of Aÿ, Dizy, and Hautvilliers and 45% from Avize and Oiry. This Cuvée 744 has a dosage of 0.75 g/liter. A few reserve wines complete this cuvée.
The vintage
2016 was a year marked by significant rainfall during winter and spring. A drop in temperatures from late February was combined with severe frosts at the end of April. The last days of spring were sunny but cool, giving way to a summer that was both hot and very dry. The harvest was interrupted for a few days to encourage uneven ripening across the vineyard. Picked at full maturity and in perfect health, the grapes produced aromatic and dense wines.
Blend
Jacquesson’s Cuvée 744 is the result of a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir.
