Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Rosé Brut cuvée from Maison Philipponnat

Tasting

Appearance
The color is a lovely salmon pink with copper highlights. The effervescence is fine, creamy, and persistent.

Nose
The bouquet reveals fruity aromas of red berries, cherries, and wild strawberries. As it opens up, notes of citrus and grapefruit peel emerge.

Palate
The attack is elegant and pure, followed by a generous palate where vibrant acidity harmonizes with a slight astringency, showcasing the fruit.

Food and wine pairings

Perfect as an aperitif, this cuvée also pairs well with fish, smoked meats such as ham and bacon, or pink meats like veal and lamb, as well as desserts made with red berries, either on their own or in a soup.

Serving

For optimal enjoyment, serve at 9°C.

An ample Rosé Champagne with a beautiful aromatic profile

The estate

Established for nearly five centuries in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Maison de Champagne Philipponnat is one of the historic names of the Champagne region. Singularity, excellence, generosity, and simplicity are the values guiding this house, whose spirit has remained family-run. Owned by the house since 1935, the legendary Clos des Goisses is one of the oldest and most prestigious clos in Champagne. This jewel is the source of rare champagnes endowed with exceptional power.

The vineyard

Maison Philipponnat oversees an exceptional Champagne vineyard, comprising 20 hectares of Premier and Grand Crus in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, and Avenay.

The wine

The Rosé Brut cuvée is crafted predominantly from Grand and Premier Crus. This rosé champagne includes 25 to 30% reserve wines.

Winemaking and aging

This cuvée is vinified in the traditional way, avoiding any premature oxidation, with partial malolactic fermentation and partial aging in barrels to develop aromatic complexity. Still red wine and saignée rosé of Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Ay and Riceys obtained by maceration complement the blend at a rate of 7 to 8% to produce a fruity and subtly colored rosé champagne. This brut champagne is aged for three to four years and has a dosage of 9 g/L.

Grape varieties

Pinot Noir (75%), Chardonnay (20%), and Pinot Meunier (5%).
