Description

A generous Champagne wine

The estate

Today, Veuve Clicquot has become a brand with worldwide success. The Veuve Clicquot myth was created thanks to a woman: Madame Clicquot. It was in 1798 that François Clicquot married the daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin. Son of the founder of the Clicquot Champagne House, he passed on all of his passion to his wife, initiating her into the secrets of champagne-making. When her husband passes away prematurely, at the age of 27, she took over the running of the Veuve Clicquot Champagne House with determination. Guided by an innate sense of innovation and a perpetual quest for perfection, she invented the riddling table and marketed the first blended rosé champagne. Veuve Clicquot has turned this uncompromising requirement into her motto: "Only one quality, the finest".

The vineyard

Comprising 390 hectares of land, Veuve Clicquot has one of the largest vineyards in Champagne. This vineyard boasts an exceptional quality, as it is spread over 12 out of the 17 Grands Crus and 20 out of the 44 Premiers Crus of the Champagne region.

The wine

Veuve Clicquot's Vintage 2012 is the 66th edition of this vintage since its creation in 1810. This exceptional champagne is made exclusively from selected grapes that stem from Grands and Premiers Crus.

Vinification and ageing

Veuve Clicquot's Vintage 2012 is vinified and aged in oak barrels for 11% of the wine, giving it both a powerful expression and an aromatic intensity with delicious spicy, toasty, woody and vanilla notes.

The blend

Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2012 is a blend of 51% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier.

Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2012: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

With its brilliant yellow colour and golden hues, this champagne has a refreshing attack. Throughout the tasting experience, its fruity aromas are reminiscent of a mirabelle plum pie, candied lemons and roasted pears and harmoniously blend with notes of green hazelnuts and almonds.

Food and wine pairing

This vintage champagne goes perfectly with seafood (crayfish, scallops) or white meats such as veal.

Service

For an optimal tasting experience, serve at 10-12°C.

Cellaring

The Veuve Clicquot Vintage 2012 can be cellared for around 25 years, enabling it to develop its full range of aromas.
