A Burgundy Premier Cru with firm tannins and fine concentration

The estate

Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, a cooper by trade, Champy is Burgundy’s oldest wine merchant. Based in the heart of Beaune, it farms 21 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. Acquired by the Advini group and led by Dimitri Bazas since 2014, the estate is a pioneer of organic viticulture in Burgundy, with 12 hectares certified organic or in biodynamic conversion since 2007. Its 15th-century cellars bear witness to an exceptional heritage.

The vineyard

The Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru comes from vineyards located on the Côte de Nuits, in the northern part of the Côte d'Or. The 26 climats classified as Premier Cru cover 80 hectares and benefit from an east to south-east exposure, at an altitude between 280 and 380 meters. The vines grow on shallow brown limestone soils that give the wine its characteristic structure and minerality.

Vinification and aging

This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru 2011 was vinified according to traditional Burgundian methods, allowing for gentle extraction of the tannins and aromas of pinot noir. Aging was carried out in oak barrels, bringing complexity and structure to the wine while preserving the expression of the terroir.
