Maison Faiveley's 2013 Corton-CharlemagneGrand Cru is 100% Chardonnay. This Burgundy white reveals scents of wood, fruits, and flowers. The concentrated palate offers superb balance and remarkable aromatic persistence. This Grand Cru requires several years to reveal its character and potential.
Legend has it that Charlemagne owned the Corton slope, from which red wines were produced at first. However, the Emperor's wife, who worried about the royal image, rebuked her husband for staining his bear with his favourite red wine. The Emperor ordered the red-grape vines be replaced with white in order to preserve the peace at home all the while indulging his affection for Corton wines.
