Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Pucelles" 2024 from Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a pale gold colour with a brilliant sheen, typical of the great Chardonnays of the Côte de Beaune in their youth.
Nose
The nose is elegant and floral, driven by notes of linden blossom and pastry, intertwined with hints of candied lemon peel and marzipan. With time, this bouquet gains even more finesse and evolves towards aromas of toasted dried fruit, rusk, honey biscuit and syrup.
Palate
On the palate, this Puligny-Montrachet captivates with its great finesse, freshness and silky texture. The aromas perceived on the nose carry through at length, delivering a finish of beautiful aromatic persistence.
Serving and cellaring
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Pucelles" 2024 is best enjoyed at a temperature of 13°C. Its structure allows it to keep for many years, making it a wine to drink until around 2044.
An Elegant Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru from the Climat des Pucelles by Maison Joseph Drouhin
The estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, in Burgundy, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a family-owned house belonging to the Drouhin family. It has grown over the generations and today farms an estate of approximately 100 hectares, stretching from Chablis to the Mâconnais. It is run by the four great-grandchildren of Joseph Drouhin: Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric. Renowned for its commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, the Maison cultivates a style founded on finesse and respect for the diversity of Burgundy's terroirs.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Climat des Pucelles, classified as Premier Cru in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, in the immediate vicinity of the Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet Grands Crus. The soil is calcareous in nature, a mix of ochre earth and stones, a configuration conducive to the mineral expression of Chardonnay. The grapes and musts come from partner growers selected according to a rigorous specification established by the Maison.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage was marked by difficult weather conditions, which reduced harvest volumes. However, sunny weather in the run-up to the harvest allowed the white grapes to reach a fine balance, preserving freshness and purity despite this challenging context.
Vinification and ageing
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Pucelles" 2024 is harvested by hand into perforated crates, with meticulous sorting of the bunches. These are gently pressed whole in a pneumatic press, with the free-run juice separated from the final press juice. After settling, the wine is transferred directly into French oak barrels from high-forest oaks, air-dried for three years, where alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place. Ageing then continues in barrel, a portion of which are new.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay (100%).
