Vinum

One of the last champagnes that cultivate the English taste, with notes of lemon candy and mature butter, nougat and vanilla; creamy on the attack, elegant, balanced and mature; a sensual wine, perfect for a tête-à-tête.

Wine Spectator

Alison Napjus

A rich note of smoke heralds this toasty version, with truffle and roasted hazelnut aromatics accenting layered flavors of creamed apple, crystallized honey, lemon curd and crème de cassis. Vibrant, with a lovely, lacy texture and racy acidity that persists on the mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2028. 300 cases imported.

Vinous

Antonio Galloni

The 2000 Brut is another supple Champagne from Charles Heidsieck. Medium in body, the wine reveals clean aromas and flavors, with lingering notes of sweet apricot, mango, and smoke on the finish. This is Lot 080301 12295, disgorged in 2008.

Bettane+Desseauve

A beautiful bright golden color, an expansive nose of toast, hazelnuts, and candied fruit, generous and flavorful palate, remarkable balance, and a long, lively finish.

Le Figaro Vin

Only wines from the vintage, playing on the balance between Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. 6 to 7 years in the cellar. 12 g. Only grands crus, sometimes a small touch of Vertus, Oger, Mesnil, Avize, Chouilly. Straw-wheat robe. Intense nose, brioche-like, complex, generous. Palate with a broad, generous attack, broad, generous mid-palate, toasted notes, long finish, very mirabelle. This 2000 has incredible vitality, with freshness.

Description

The structure and aromatic richness of a vintage champagne

The producer

An essential reference for great Champagne wines, the Charles Heidsieck House maintains a prestigious heritage with two-thousand-year-old chalk pits. The pioneering Charles Heidsieck began to distinguish itself from the end of the 1980s through showcasing its multi-vintage Brut champagne’s exceptional capacity for aromatic evolution. In 1987, Charles Heidsieck was the first Champagne house to indicate its “cellaring” year to follow the evolution of the wine over time.

The vineyard

The Charles Heidsieck Champagne House owns a vineyard of around 60 hectares in Marne and Aube. This vineyard has received sustainable viticulture and High Environmental Value certifications. In addition to its own vineyard and through following the Champagne model, Charles Heidsieck supplements its vineyard with long-term supply contracts with rigorously selected wine-growers and cooperatives in the Champagne region.

The wine

This Brut Millésimé 2000 by Charles Heidsieck is made from exceptional Premiers and Grands Crus.

Vinification and ageing

Alcoholic fermentation is followed by malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine its signature round and vinous style. The wine is then aged in vats and bottled. They will age for 12 years in the house’s chalk cellars in Reims.

The blend

Charles Heidsieck's Brut Millésimé 2000 comprises a blend of Pinot Noir (58%) and Chardonnay (42%).

The tasting

Colour

The colour showcases a beautiful golden hue. The effervescence is fine and sustained.

Nose

Concentrated, the nose blends fragrances of undergrowth, humus and fern with floral notes of musky rose. The large proportion of Pinot Noir in the blend reveals spicy aromas of white pepper, liquorice and Espelette pepper.

Palate

Powerful and warm, the palate is seduced with its black fruit notes (blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry), its smooth texture and its exceptional length. The structure of the Pinot Noir blends harmoniously with the complexity of the Chardonnay varietal.
