Description
Tasting characteristics and serving suggestions for Millésimé Brut Collection Crayeres Rosé 1988
Tasting
Appearance
Elegant coppery hue.
Nose
Oxidative aromas such as walnut, chestnut and hazelnut initially dominate, then give way to floral notes of peony and violet. After aeration, scents of red and black fruits such as raspberry, black cherry and blackberry emerge, bringing a delicate complexity.
Palate
The attack is lively and generous, with a lovely freshness that harmonizes with powerful red and black fruit flavors.
The fruity backbone and structure of a vintage rosé Champagne
The estate
A true benchmark, the Champagne House Champagne Charles Heidsieck looks after a prestigious heritage with chalk cellars that are two millennia old. A pioneer, Charles Heidsieck distinguished itself from the late 1980s by highlighting the exceptional capacity for aromatic development of its multi-vintage Brut Champagne. In 1987, Charles Heidsieck thus became the first Champagne house to indicate the year the wine was cellared in order to track its evolution over time.
The vineyard
Maison Charles Heidsieck owns a vineyard of around 60 hectares in the Marne and Aube. This vineyard has sustainable viticulture accreditation as well as Haute Valeur Environnementale certification. In addition to its own vineyard and in keeping with the Champagne model, Charles Heidsieck meets its needs through long-term supply contracts with rigorously selected winegrowers and cooperatives in Champagne.
The wine
From the Œnothèque of Maison Charles Heidsieck, this Millésimé Brut Collection Crayères 1988 is a rare and delicate rosé Champagne, cellared in 1989 and disgorged in 2021.
The vintage
A mild winter preceded a spring marked by frost and heavy rainfall in May, followed by a dry summer punctuated by thunderstorms. Despite these conditions, this vintage is of great quality.
Blend
Pinot Noir (60%), Chardonnay (40%).
