Description
The liveliness and freshness of a Rosé Champagne by Gosset
The estate
As a legacy of traditional expertise, the Champagne Gosset House has perpetuated its style through the centuries. The Gosset family has been established in Aÿ, Grand Cru of Champagne, since the 16th century. For 16 generations, the Gosset House has upheld excellence, now overseen by Odilon de Varine, cellar master and deputy general manager of the house. The house’s champagnes are especially recognizable by the shape of their bottle, a legacy of the “antique” bottles used in the 18th century.
The vineyard
The Gosset House owns plots on the Grands Crus and Premiers Crus of Champagne in the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The approximately 140 hectares of vineyards are planted on the crus of Cumières, Courmas, Chamery, Avenay, Vertus, Villers-Marmery, Grauves, Avize, Trépail, and Cuis.
The wine
The Celebris Rosé Extra Brut 2008 cuvée from Gosset is made from a blend of chardonnay vineyards (Avize, Cramant, Vertus, …) and pinot noir (Ambonnay, Aÿ, Bouzy, …). After 1998, 2003, and 2007, this cuvée is the fourth edition of this Rosé Extra Brut champagne.
Vinification and aging
Traditional vinification and aging on lees. Malolactic fermentation is avoided to preserve a pure and fruity aromatic expression. This 2008 vintage champagne is aged for at least 10 years in the cellar. Its dosage is 6.5 g/l.
Blend
Chardonnay (72%) and pinot noir (28%) of which 8% is red wine.
Characteristics and tasting tips for Celebris Rosé Extra Brut 2008 by Gosset
Tasting
Appearance
Bright, the appearance reveals coppery highlights, conferred by long aging in the house’s cellars.
Nose
The nose exudes fruity fragrances (strawberry jam), spicy (black pepper), and menthol notes. With beautiful length, the bouquet reveals, as it opens up, delicious aromas of ripe fruits (peach, nectarine, apricot).
Palate
Vivid and refreshing, the palate seduces with its flavors of ripe black cherry, blood orange, and its enveloping texture. Thanks to its minerality, the saline finish is the purest expression of the chardonnay that predominates in the blend.
Food and wine pairings
Ideal as an aperitif, this vintage Rosé champagne pairs wonderfully with mushrooms, foie gras, poultry, lobster, strawberries, or citrus fruits.
Serving
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this champagne between 10 and 12°C.
