Description
A structured and delicate red wine from the Côteaux Champenois by Louis Roederer
The estate
Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After over 200 years of existence, the Louis Roederer House is still owned by the same family. Today, headed by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the family’s seventh generation, Louis Roederer embodies the excellence of Champagne wines throughout the world, due to its vintages that are crafted like true works of art.
The vineyard
Comprising nearly 241 hectares of vines, the Louis Roederer House’s strength comes from its extraordinary vineyard, made up entirely of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. An impressive patchwork of terroirs, the Louis Roederer vineyard is divided into 410 plots that reflect the diversity of the Champagne region’s soils.
The wine
Produced in the Coteaux Champenois AOC, Louis Roederer's Hommage à Camille "Charmont" cuvée celebrates the innovative and free sprited Camille Olry-Roederer, Frédéric Rouzaud's great-grandmother. This bold woman is one of the most important figures in the House’s history.
This limited edition plot-based collection offers an innovative expression of the Champagne region’s terroir. It is made from grapes harvested on a 43-are plot in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the Charmont area.
The vintage
The year 2019 is marked by a noticeable climatic instability throughout the vegetative cycle. Despite these conditions, this vintage reveals concentrated, rich wines that boast a beautiful quality.
Vinification and ageing
Maceration for 14 days with 30% whole bunches. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (47% new barrels, 29% first fill and 24% second fill barrels)
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
Louis Roederer's Hommage à Camille "Charmont" 2019: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Nose
Expressive and deep, the nose blends fruity (red fruit, wild strawberry, redcurrant) and floral fragrances with subtle notes of spice, liquorice and fresh pepper.
Palate
A silky and refined attack gives way to a palate that possesses fine tannins along with a delicate sweetness. The palate seduces with its purity, freshness and aromatic richness while preserving a beautiful concentration. The finish is very persistent.
