Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection 1995
Tasting
Nose
The 63rd vintage of the House, the Grand Vintage Collection 1995 reveals an aromatic evolution shaped by ageing on the lees. The bouquet, initially centred on pear, citrus and almond, opens up towards peach, apricot, candied lemon and honey, while retaining a brioche-like backbone enhanced by notes of gingerbread and smoked teas.
Palate
On the palate, the texture is generous and structured, carried by a freshness reminiscent of candied mandarin and clementine. The whole stands out for its beautiful balance between concentration and structure, a fruit that unfolds gradually, and a soft, sustained length, where brioche, ripe pear, almond and citrus echo one another.
The refinement and richness of a vintage champagne
The estate
The Champagne Moët & Chandon House was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly turned it into a benchmark among the European courts. A few years later, his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, extended the House's international reach.
Jean-Rémy Moët notably created the House's iconic cuvée, Moët Impérial, as a tribute to Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate on several occasions and to whom, along with his troops, the gesture of sabring bottles of Moët & Chandon to celebrate a victory is attributed.
Owned by the LVMH group since 1987, the House crafts, from a demanding selection of Champagne terroirs, singular cuvées recognised beyond borders for their quality and their power of seduction.
The wine
Produced only in great years in Champagne, the Grand Vintage is the free and personal expression of an exceptional vintage by the Cellar Master of Moët & Chandon.
Winemaking and aging
This vintage champagne benefits from extended ageing in the cellar.
Blend
Chardonnay (40%), Pinot Noir (50%), Pinot Meunier (10%).
