Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2022 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with a beautiful brilliance that bears witness to its vitality.
Nose
The bouquet opens with expressive aromas of very ripe black cherry, nutmeg and forest floor. Subtle oaky touches, sweet spices, pepper and liquorice intertwine with a characteristic mineral backbone.
Palate
The attack is both firm and fleshy, offering a fruity generosity that evolves into a vertical structure. The mid-palate reveals the density expected of a grand cru, while retaining great elegance. Supported by lively acidity and silky tannins, the persistent finish stretches out over saline minerality and delicate citrus notes.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine will pair wonderfully with fine meats such as beef fillet or roast squab, as well as dishes in sauce served with wild mushrooms.
Serving and cellaring
With its remarkable structure, this Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2022 has exceptional ageing potential, allowing it to travel through the years in the cellar.
The Mineral and Refined Expression of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, expressing all the finesse of the Burgundian terroir.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the famous Corton Grand Cru, more precisely from the climat "Les Perrières". Located at 273 metres above sea level on a south-east-facing slope, this former stone quarry stands out for its brown and red clay soils over a clay-limestone substrate, scattered with abundant pinkish pebbles. The vines, planted between 1953 and 1954, are farmed according to organic principles, without herbicides, with mechanical soil work to preserve the natural balance and biodiversity of the terroir.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was marked by a hot summer season and a relatively early growing cycle compared with historical averages. However, welcome coolness at the end of the season helped avoid excessive overripeness, providing ideal weather conditions for the ripening of the berries.
Vinification and ageing
For the creation of this Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2022, the grapes are harvested by hand into small crates. After rigorous sorting, the berries are fully destemmed without being crushed. A cold maceration of a few days precedes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, punctuated by punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for fifteen to eighteen months. It is neither fined nor filtered before being bottled by gravity.
