Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2023 Méo-Camuzet

Tasting

Colour
A beautiful red hue with velvety purple tints, this wine evolves toward subtle magenta nuances.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, revealing scents of red and black fruits such as cherry and blackcurrant. This is delicately underscored by notes of liquorice and smoke, along with herbaceous touches reminiscent of mint and eucalyptus.

Palate
Fresh and concentrated, the attack offers a refined tannic presence that brings depth. The minerality of the terroir gives this cru a beautiful tension, perfectly balancing the fruit's ripeness with a serious, elegant structure.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with roasted poultry and feathered game such as duck, pheasant or quail. It also goes wonderfully with characterful meats such as beef fillet with mushrooms, or hearty vegetarian dishes based on roasted root vegetables.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, this grand cru should be served at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Built for a long evolution, it will reveal its full potential from around 2030 and can be cellared for fifteen to twenty years.

Other Characteristics

The alcohol content of this vintage ranges between 12 and 13.5%.

The Elegance and Minerality of a Red Burgundy Wine

The Estate

Located in Vosne-Romanée, at the heart of Burgundy in France, Domaine Méo-Camuzet was officially established under this name in 1981, although its heritage dates back to Étienne Camuzet's acquisitions in 1920. Now led by Jean-Nicolas Méo, the estate embodies rigour and respect for terroir. Building on the legacy of the renowned winemaker Henri Jayer, the estate cultivates its vines according to uncertified organic principles. Méo-Camuzet is distinguished by its minimally interventionist philosophy, producing wines that brilliantly combine structure, finesse and charm.

The Vineyard

The "Les Perrières" climat enjoys a privileged location within the Corton Grand Cru appellation, to the north of the village of Aloxe-Corton. The plot covers 0.6 hectares and is home to very old vines planted in 1953 and 1954. This terroir takes its name from its deep soils, composed of clay, limestone and an abundance of small, round, pinkish stones. This stony geology provides excellent drainage and gives the grapes a remarkable concentration as well as a strongly marked mineral identity.

The Vintage

2023 began with a mild, dry winter, leading to early budbreak in April and a rapid flowering in early June. Summer was marked by regular rainfall that protected the vines from drought, encouraging a generous harvest potential that required extensive green harvesting. Finally, an unprecedented heatwave in early September sharply accelerated ripening, calling for a swift harvest under trying temperatures, but yielding healthy berries rich in sugars.

Winemaking and Aging

After rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo a slightly shortened cold maceration to preserve freshness. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats with controlled temperatures, accompanied by pumping-over early in the cycle and punching down toward the end. Aging is carried out with a measured use of new oak barrels. True to its philosophy, the estate bottles by gravity, without any fining or filtration, following the lunar calendar.
