Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2020 from Méo-Camuzet

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a deep and intense red hue.

Nose

The nose reveals a powerful and complex bouquet dominated by intense dark fruit aromas. Spice notes mingle with characteristic earthy touches, adding depth and character to the overall aromatic profile.

Palate

On the palate, this Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2020 stands out for its breadth and assertive structure. The tannins, present and well-defined, nonetheless display a fine elegance and refined grain. The whole reflects remarkable concentration while preserving a harmonious balance, hallmark of the 2020 vintage.

Food and wine pairings

This red Burgundy wine pairs ideally with noble red meats, feathered game, or aged soft-rind cheeses. Its structure and power also allow it to elevate elaborate sauce-based dishes.

Serving and storage

This wine will benefit from being decanted one to two hours before serving to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. Serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Built for aging, it possesses significant cellaring potential that will allow it to evolve favorably over many years in the cellar.

A powerful and structured Grand Cru from Burgundy by Domaine Méo-Camuzet

The estate

Domaine Méo-Camuzet, located in Vosne-Romanée in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, was gradually built up from the 1920s thanks to the acquisitions of Étienne Camuzet. Now led by Jean-Nicolas Méo, the estate cultivates approximately fourteen hectares of vines spread across prestigious appellations, including six Grands Crus and ten Premiers Crus. The estate's philosophy favors a balance between power and finesse, concentration and elegance, while respecting Burgundy's exceptional terroirs. The domaine has established itself as an essential benchmark for Burgundy wines, featured on the finest tables around the world.

The vineyard

The Grand Cru "Les Perrières" comes from a climat situated on the hill of Corton, at approximately 273 meters above sea level. This plot benefits from an ideal south-east exposure and rests on particularly stony clay-limestone soils, a characteristic that gave the lieu-dit "Perrières" its name. These stony soils, brown to reddish in color, impart an assertive structure and exceptional aging potential to the wines. The vineyard is managed according to environmentally respectful practices, close to organic farming, with regular plowing and meticulous plot-by-plot management.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage in Burgundy is characterized by particularly favorable climatic conditions. The year was marked by generous sunshine and high temperatures, notably during a heatwave episode in early August. These sunny conditions produced perfectly ripe and concentrated grapes. Despite the summer heat, the vines did not suffer from excessive water stress thanks to water reserves built up during winter. The 2020 vintage stands out for a rare combination: wines displaying beautiful maturity while retaining remarkable acidity, a guarantee of balance and freshness.

Winemaking and aging

This wine is vinified according to the estate's traditional methods, prioritizing respect for the fruit and the expression of terroir. After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are partially destemmed before being transferred to vats. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts naturally present on the berries, without the addition of selected yeasts. Interventions during vatting remain measured to preserve aromatic finesse. Aging takes place in oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new wood suited to Grand Cru status. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling, which is carried out by gravity.
