Wine Spectator

Alison Napjus

A flash of candy-apple flavor makes this a showy but likeable bubbly. On the soft side in texture. 50,000 cases made.

Decanter

Very pure aromatics of spring meadows and soft yellow fruit. The palate is very nicely integrated; gentle but quietly beguiling.

I like the light orange aromas here, alongside chopped apple, fresh sourdough and white flowers. It’s fresh and elegant with a pretty, floral and citrusy edge. Fine bubbles. 35% chardonnay, 35% pinot noir and 30% pinot meunier. Disgorged in 2024. Dosage 7g/L. Drink now.

Bettane+Desseauve

Delicately citrusy and fruity, balanced and harmonious, with a lovely tender, fresh fruit character.

La RVF

An abundant, fine mousse; the wine is not very tightly wound, and the level of ripeness is average. It remains a bit thin and slender at mid-palate. There’s a slightly watery feel; the finish is short and it lacks complexity.

Roger Voss

The nonvintage blend from this venerable producer is as balanced as all its Champagnes. It steers a fine course between acidity and crispness and a softer riper dosage. Blended with equal parts of all three main Champagne grapes, it is ready to drink.

Description

The expression of Joseph Perrier's style in a fresh and elegant Champagne

The estate

In the shadows of its 3 kilometres of underground galleries of Gallo-Roman origin, the high-quality Joseph Perrier Champagne House perpetuates a know-how and a respect for tradition which has been transmitted from generation to generation. Each plot is vinified separately so that the identity of each of the Champagne terroirs can be expressed, with bespoke ageing processes.

The wine

Cuvée Royale Brut by the Joseph Perrier House combines over 20 different Champagne crus, all stemming from the finest terroirs such as Cumières, Damery, Hautvillers and Verneuil.

Winemaking and ageing

Aged for three years in the House's cellars, this Brut champagne includes 20% reserve wines and its dosage is 7g/litre.

Blend

Chardonnay (35%)
Pinot Noir (35%)
Pinot Meunier (30%).

Characteristics and tasting tips for Joseph Perrier’s Cuvée Royale Brut

Tasting

Colour
This champagne showcases a beautiful pale gold colour, with coppery reflections highlighting the finesse and liveliness of the effervescence.

Nose
Subtle at first, the nose then gives way to beautiful fruity notes reminiscent of green apple or the sweetness of vine peaches. With aeration the bouquet unveils elegant exotic notes of pineapple.

Palate
A lively and supple attack gives way to a palate harmoniously combining richness and purity. Delicious white flower scents draw out to a subtly acidic finish releasing vine peach notes.

Food and wine pairing

A perfect apéritif, this Cuvée Royale Brut will also complement salmon gravlax or shavings of Parmesan cheese.

To serve

For the best tasting, this champagne should be chilled in an ice bucket for 20 minutes before serving at between 8 and 10°C.
