Description
Minerality and Gourmandise: a vintage Champagne by Perrier Jouët
The Estate
The Perrier-Jouët Champagne House was founded in 1811 by Pierre Perrier and his wife Adèle Jouët. The House’s cuvées come from exceptional Champagne terroirs (Aÿ, Mailly-Champagne, Avize and Cramant) and are renowned for their unique style, combining aromatic richness, refinement and subtlety. Perrier-Jouët became the official Champagne of Queen Victoria in 1861 and later of the French Imperial Court.
Owned by the GH Mumm Champagne company since 1959, the Perrier-Jouët House owes its uniqueness in particular to the iconic bottle of the "Belle Époque" prestige cuvée, designed in 1969 by Émile Gallé.
The Vineyard
The Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 2016 cuvée is produced from a strict selection of great Champagne terroirs, including Verzy and Mailly-Champagne (in the north of the Montagne de Reims) for Pinot Noir and the Côte des Blancs for Chardonnay. Created in 1964, this Champagne benefits from at least 6 years of aging in the House's cellars.
The Cuvée
The emblematic Perrier-Joüet Belle Epoque Champagne is the first cuvée decorated with the white Japanese anemone, a motif designed for the House in 1902 by Émile Gallé, a master of Art Nouveau.
The Vintage
A mild and rainy winter was followed by a particularly wet spring, marked by frosts in April. The summer was dry and hot, particularly in August. Rainfall occurred two weeks before the harvest, which began on September 20th.
The Blend
This 2016 vintage Champagne comprises a blend of Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Noir (45%) and Pinot Meunier (5%).
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Cuvée Belle Époque 2016 by Perrier-Jouët
Tasting
Color
Beautiful golden color.
Nose
Rich and elegant, the nose reveals floral (linden, acacia) and fruity fragrances (white fruit, citrus fruit). When aerated, delicious notes of almond, hazelnut, soft apricot and Timut pepper unfold.
Palate
The palate seduces with its delicate effervescence, its silky texture and its freshness. A lively and precise attack gives way to a lingering mouthfeel with an enveloping structure.
Service
For the best enjoyment, serve at approximately 12°C.
Food and wine pairing
A sea bass carpaccio with citrus fruit or a spiny lobster with Timut pepper are refined pairings for this cuvée.
