Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Belle Epoque "Blanc de Blancs" 2004 Perrier-Jouët
Tasting notes
Color
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue leaning towards a light gold, sometimes highlighted by subtle green glints. The effervescence is persistent and delicate.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with floral notes of lilac and magnolia, joined by hints of citrus such as white grapefruit and candied lemon. With aeration, stone fruit aromas emerge, followed by nuances of brioche, butter, honey and almond, testifying to its long ageing.
Palate
The attack is creamy and fresh, offering a lovely balance between acidity and fruit-driven richness. The mid-palate reveals a silky texture where citrus and stone fruit flavours intertwine. The finish is long, dry and energetic, underpinned by a chalky, mineral backbone.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with delicate seafood such as a scallop carpaccio with citrus, lobster, langoustines or oysters. It also goes very well with fine fish like sea bass or turbot, as well as light poultry dishes and spring vegetable preparations.
Service and cellaring
This Belle Epoque "Blanc de Blancs" 2004 can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve until around 2033.
Other characteristics
This wine has a brut dosage, characterised by a low residual sugar content.
The floral, mineral elegance of a Côte des Blancs champagne by Perrier-Jouët
The estate
Founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaide Jouët, the Maison Perrier-Jouët is a historic figure in the Champagne region. Renowned for its deep connection with nature, the house made its mark as early as 1902 with the creation of its famous bottle adorned with anemones by Émile Gallé. Now owned by the Pernod Ricard group, the house is led by César Giron, while Séverine Frerson serves as cellar master. The estate stands out for its strong commitment to regenerative viticulture.
The vineyard
The house's vineyard covers around 65 hectares, more than half of which lies within the prized terroirs of Cramant and Avize, within the Champagne appellation. The vines benefit from the chalky, limestone soils typical of the Côte des Blancs. This wine comes specifically from two historic plots located in Cramant: Bourons Leroy and Bourons du Midi.
The vintage
The year 2004 began with a cool spring, followed by a hot, sunny summer that caused a slight water stress favourable to berry concentration. After a rainy, cool August, a superb Indian summer in September allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The harvest produced fruit of excellent health, with beautiful natural acidity.
Winemaking and ageing
The Belle Epoque "Blanc de Blancs" 2004 undergoes extended ageing on the lees in the house's cellars for eight years. This long maturation allows the wine's aromatic complexity to develop while refining its texture.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
