Description

The structure and purity of a very rare rosé champagne in an exceptional vintage

The producer

The history of the Taittinger Champagne House began in the early 20th century. Ran by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his two children, Clovis and Vitalie, the Taittinger House has managed to preserve its family spirit by producing champagnes that are resolutely Chardonnay in style. Since January 1st 2020, Vitalie Taittinger is the President of the Taittinger Champagne House.

The vineyard

The vineyards owned by the Taittinger Champagne House spread across 288 hectares of vines and include 37 different crus. This makes Taittinger the third largest vineyard in Champagne. The entire vineyard bears a High Environmental Value certificate.

The wine

An exceptional Champagne, Comtes de Champagne Rosé by Taittinger is only produced during the finest years. In order to declare a Comtes de Champagne Rosé vintage, the harvest must meet very strict quality-related criteria regarding both the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Comtes de Champagne Rosé is the rarest of the Taittinger House's champagnes and is poised among the elite of the world's greatest vintages. The dancer-choreographer Rudolf Nureyev used to say "when I drink Comtes de Champagne Rosé, I don't dance anymore, I fly...".

The vintage

An exceptional vintage, a perfect maturity, 2007 stands out by its incredible liveliness, its vinous structure, its finesse and its saline freshness.

Vinification and ageing

15% of the Bouzy Pinots were vinified as red wines with a long fermentation maceration. This stage gave the wines a beautiful structure and intense fruit aromas. Taittinger's Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2007 was aged for over 10 years in the beautiful Gallo-Roman chalk pits of Saint-Nicaise in order to develop the full complexity of its aromas.

The blend

Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2007 by Taittinger is a blend of Pinot Noir from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims (70%) and Chardonnay from the most prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Blancs (30%).

Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2007 by Taittinger; Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour

This rare vintage rosé champagne seduces the eye with its salmon colour and copper highlights, highlighting the fine, linguering bubbles.

Nose

Expressive and highlighting the maturity of the fruit, the nose exudes notes of strawberries, along with the freshness of lime and liquorice. When aerated, roasted notes reminiscent of coffee and cocoa beans punctuate this pleasurable aromatic discovery.

Palate

The palate reveals a precise silhouette. The tension of the fruit balances the vinous structure of the mouthfeel while evolving in a supple manner. The finish lingers with notes of fruit while presenting a beautiful saline freshness.

Food and wine pairing

A gastronomic champagne par excellence, Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2007 by Taittinger will complement white meats as well as seafood or noble shellfish such as lobster. With its energy and finesse, this 2007 vintage goes well with old cheeses such as a mature Comté or Chaource, or with desserts such as baked pears or blueberry pie.

Cellaring

With its purity and structure, this beautiful Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2007 by Taittinger promises to evolve superbly over time.
