Description
The richness and creaminess of a Premier Cru from Beaune
The estate
Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is an essential reference in Burgundy. The history of the house began with the acquisition of the Beaune Premier Cru "Clos des Ursules" in 1826. As the owner of prestigious vineyards, Louis Jadot perpetuates a know-how passed down from generation to generation, thus offering enthusiasts the excellence of Burgundy wines.
Since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey had been leading the house. In September 2022, he passed the presidency to Thomas Seiter (formerly with Bouchard Père et Fils), while his son Thibault Gagey assumes the role of General Manager.
The vineyard
The terroir of Beaune Premier Cru Aux Cras Gagey is distinguished by its rich and varied clay-limestone soils, promoting excellent drainage and the maturation of grapes of great quality. Located at an altitude of 260 meters and facing southeast, the "Aux Cras" climate benefits from an ideal location and a particularly stony soil, which is the origin of its name.
Vinification and aging
The grapes, carefully destemmed, are vinified in open vats for nearly four weeks, allowing the finesse and complexity of the terroir to be revealed. After fermentation, the wine is meticulously aged in oak barrels for 18 months, which refines and enriches its aromatic profile.
Grape variety
This Beaune 1er cru "Aux Cras" Domaine Gagey 2016 from Louis Jadot is 100% Pinot Noir.
