Description

The originality and aromatic richness of a rare and generous rosé champagne

The producer

The Perrier-Jouët Champagne House was founded in 1811 by Pierre Perrier and his wife, Adèle Jouët. Produced from exceptional Champagne wine terroirs (Aÿ, Mailly-Champagne, Avize and Cramant), the house’s cuvées are renowned for their unique style, which combines aromatic richness, sophistication and subtlety. Perrier-Jouët became Queen Victoria’s official champagne in 1861, then that of the French Imperial Court.

Owned by the Champagne company, GH Mumm, since 1959, the Perrier-Jouët House particularly stands out through the iconic bottle of its prestigious cuvée, "Belle Époque", devised by Émile Gallé in 1969.

The wine

Produced in limited quantities and only during exceptional vintages, the Belle Époque Rosé cuvée by Perrier-Jouët is made from a blend of iconic terroirs in Cramant, Avize, Aÿ, Mailly and Dizy.

The Belle Époque Rosé 2010 cuvée by Perrier-Jouët is adorned with the Japanese white flower, anemone, a motif created for the house in 1902 by Émile Gallé, a master of Art Nouveau.

The vintage

Winter was followed by a particularly hot spring and summer. The quality of the berries were slightly altered by significant rainy episodes during August, as well as during harvests. Following a rigorous selection, only the high-quality grapes were used during the production of this very rare rosé champagne. In fact, Perrier-Jouët was one of the rare houses to have produced a vintage champagne in 2010.

Vinification and ageing

This champagne can be recognised by its clear light peach colour. This unique colour was produced by macerating a small proportion of the Pinot Noir’s clear juices with their skins during red wine vinification. This vintage champagne, which has a 8g/litre dosage, enjoys a minimum of 6 years of ageing in the house’s chalk cellars.

The blend

The Belle Époque Rosé 2010 cuvée by Perrier-Jouët is made from a blend of Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Noir (45%) and Pinot Meunier (5%).

The tasting

Colour

The wine is a beautiful light pink with copper highlights. The effervescence has a wonderful finesse.

Nose

The nose mixes intense fragrances of roses, peony and wild strawberry.

Palate

The palate reveals this cuvée’s original expression through its liveliness, freshness and complexity. The finish is indulgently long and persistent.

Food and wine pairing

Thanks to its aromatic complexity, the Belle Époque Rosé 2010 cuvée by Perrier-Jouët lends itself to innovative sweet and salty pairings, notably lobster, red lentils and figs.
