Description
A great vintage champagne that is fresh and indulgent
The estate
Founded in 1849, the Pol Roger Champagne House has perpetuated the excellence of its expertise and its perpetual quest for perfection for 5 generations. An essential reference beyond borders, the Pol Roger House is the official supplier to the British Crown as well as to the finest starred restaurants.
Being one of the last houses to still practice hand riddling of champagne bottles for its entire production, Pol Roger holds its singularity in its style, authentically expressing the full potential of exceptional Champagne terroirs.
The vineyard
The Pol Roger House watches over an exceptional Champagne vineyard of 92 hectares, including the finest parcels of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs.
Winemaking and aging
Gentle pressing is carried out following the harvest. A first settling is performed at the pressing center before a second cold settling (6°C) for 24 hours in the house's vat room. Alcoholic fermentation at low temperature (18°C) in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. Separate vinification by grape variety and by cru before final blending. Malolactic fermentation. After blending and bottling, the second fermentation and aging take place in the house's historic cellars.
Produced in limited quantities, this 2016 vintage champagne by Pol Roger benefits from 7 years of aging. Following disgorgement, additional aging of at least 3 months is carried out before release.
Blend
Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) from 20 Grands and Premiers Crus of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs.
Characteristics and tasting recommendations for the Brut Vintage 2016 by Pol Roger
Tasting
Appearance
The pale gold color is adorned with silvery reflections. The effervescence is lively and elegant.
Nose
Expressive, the initial nose exhales fragrances of dried fruits, cocoa, almond and coconut. As it aerates, the nose becomes more complex through rich fruity notes (yellow fruits, mirabelle plum) and eau de vie.
Palate
Freshness characterizes the palate throughout the tasting. Dried fruits, citrus, lemon and bitter orange are all aromas supported by indulgent confectionery notes (candied orange peel).
